The areas we focus on

Helping your child develop their understanding and use of language, including vocabulary, grammar, comprehension and expressive communication and receptive language skills.
Everyone deserves access to communication. We support children and young people to explore and use Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) when it can help them communicate more effectively. Our speech pathologists work closely with families to assess, trial and implement AAC systems that meet each child’s individual strengths, preferences and communication needs.
Reading, writing, spelling and phonological awareness all form part of the literacy skills we support children to develop for learning and everyday life. When appropriate, we may partner with your child’s school team so progress carries across home and the classroom.
Our team helps children work towards speech that’s clear and confident, so being understood in everyday conversations comes more easily.
Children learn best through play, which is why our sessions are built around play-based activities shaped by your child’s interests and strengths. The result is a fun, engaging and low-pressure space where speech, language, communication and confidence may grow through meaningful interactions.
For children who stutter, we draw on evidence-based, strengths-focused approaches to support confident communication. We partner with your child and their family to shape strategies that encourage comfortable, self-assured communication in day-to-day life.
Meaningful connection matters most in the places children spend their time, so we support them to build it at home, school and in the community. Our strengths-based, neuroaffirming approaches help children develop the confidence and skills to recognise and share their emotions, advocate for what they need, and form positive relationships on their own terms.

Common speech therapy questions

Speech pathology is concerned with assessing, diagnosing, managing and, where possible, preventing disorders of speech, language, voice and fluency.
Speech pathologists support children to communicate on their own terms, providing assessment and evidence-based support for speech, language, communication, voice, fluency, literacy, feeding and swallowing, all of which helps children participate more confidently in daily life.
Absolutely. We work with children from infancy through to 18 years, and that includes toddlers taking their first steps in communication, language and speech. Where you have concerns about your toddler’s communication, stepping in early may make a difference.
Children come to us needing communication and language support for many different reasons. Our speech pathologists have experience across a wide range of disabilities, such as autism, cerebral palsy, intellectual disabilities, global developmental delay, ADHD, social-emotional difficulties, trauma, behavioural differences and other neurological disorders, along with articulation and stuttering difficulties.
Yes. Strong communication skills are foundational to learning. When appropriate, our speech-language pathologists work closely with teachers and educators to support your child’s progress both in and out of the classroom.
Each child follows their own path. Our dedicated team reviews progress regularly and, in partnership with you, shapes therapy plans around your child’s growth and development, so support may always reflect where they are right now.
To make therapy meaningful, our Dulwich Hill paediatric speech therapists continually broaden their skills through additional training in many areas. The services and approaches we may draw on include:
